The hidden cost of looking down all day โ€” and the fix.
MVMT Health

Hi Sarah,

Here's something that surprises people: tilting your head forward to look at your phone can more than triple the effective weight your neck has to support. Bend further, and it climbs higher. Multiply that by the hours we all spend looking down, and it adds up to real strain โ€” what's often called "tech neck."

Over time, that forward-head position can lead to neck tightness, shoulder tension, and headaches. The fix isn't giving up your devices โ€” it's small habit changes:

  • Raise your phone toward eye level instead of dropping your head to it.
  • Take a quick look-up break every 15 minutes or so.
  • Gently stretch your neck and chest through the day to counter the forward pull.

None of this is dramatic. A few small adjustments, repeated, keep you enjoying your screens without paying for it in your neck.

If neck or shoulder tension is nagging you, tell us at your next visit or call (813) 555-0142.
